I've known George and his entire family since I was about five; he lived two houses away from me. George was always a quiet kid growing up, very friendly never a trouble maker. When we began driving cars I must say George built one of the fastest "Classic" hot rods you've ever seen. A 56 Chevy 327 four bolt main worked to the max with a super T10 tranny, 488 rear. Hooker headers, the list goes on. That car smoked everyone! It took a real fine girl to tame that boy and his hot rod, her name was Sue Gitlin PHS class of 71! That was it, George fell head over heels for Sue and her the same for George. I didn't get to see much of George after High School. First of all his Vietnam draft lottery number was low so he joined the National Guard like so many others. Between his military service and the love of his life Sue Gitlin, we all went in different directions. I spoke to George over the phone at length at the time we were planning our 30 year HS reunion. He promised he would go but unfortunately he was a no show. Shortly after that I heard from his family that he passed away suddenly. I felt bad, especially for those he left behind. Knowing George he’s probably tinkering around up there with his 56 Chevy! I wonder if they have any speed limits, If not George is truly in Heaven! Until we meet again my friend, I got shotgun!
