Bob was our parallel bars specialist on the gymnastics team, and he was always a lot of fun to be around. His nickname was "The Fish", though I can't recall why. It's very sad to learn of his passing.
Bob was one of my best friends when we were little kids at Schwarting. We were insufferable little practical jokers. Together we invented (and actually sold to some of our classmates) an ingenious device we called a "poofnik" - a piece of hanger wire bent in a "u" shape with a metal washer suspended by rubber bands from each end. We would wind the washer and place it inside the cover of a book. Opening the book just a little would allow the washer to unwind, flawlessly recreating the sound of flatulence - perfect for disrupting any class and annoying any teacher. Even now I chuckle when I think about it – and while we drifted apart in high school, I still miss Bob very much.
Robert (yes, I called him Robert back then) was also one of my best friends in elementary school. I remember the two of us walking to the Massapequa resevoir in the afternoons after school and have contests to see how many carp we could catch before having to be home before dinner. Also, playing baseball and softball in the cul-de-sac in front of his house and tunneling through the local sumps and storm sewers. We lost touch during HS but I'll always remember our early adventures.
I had such a crush on Bob in 10th grade! I introduced him to my friend from McCarthur and he never looked at me again! LOL He was such a sweetheart!
